Opening in 1876 the Carlisle Castle Hotel on the corner of Albermarle & Probert St is one of Sydney’s oldest institutions.

Resch’s refitted the Carlisle Castle in the early ’20s importing its magnificent marble bar from Italy in the early days of Australian settlement that adorns the Castle’s traditional entrance to this day.

The walls aren’t tiled anymore, but they echo sounds of Newtown locals, the stories of great musicians, artists and friends that have ventured through the halls and shared a drink or two.

Legend has it, ghosts haunt the Carlisle Castle. Footage recovered in 2014 shows a mysterious wispy figure, wine bottles and glasses flying off the shelves and onto the bar, regularly lights mysteriously flicker and cold chills occasionally fill the air.

It seems this pub is full of all kinds of spirits!!!!!.
