The Crown” as we are known by the locals, has always been a fantastic spot for a drink, a good meal and affordable accommodation.

Built in 1862 and located in the heart of Kingston SE, the Crown Inn was formerly known as the Ship Inn. Burrows & Gladstone began running the mail in April 1862 and they used the newly opening Ship Inn. Mr Crews (contractor from 1877-1880) advertised that the Ship Inn was his booking office and depot. In 1878 while Mr JT Winterbottom was licensee, the building was renovated and the hotel was renamed the Crown Hotel (now known as the Crown Inn). When Mr Gall began running the coaches to and from Meningie he changed the booking office to the Royal Mail Hotel (opened 1867). It is uncertain whether the Ship Inn was continuously the booking agent from 1862-1877.
